After months of marching and living from the undefended towns and villages that they encountered along the way, Anakita Repnin and his marauding army have reached the gates of Istanbul.
Their march took them from Trebizond through Samsun, Tosya, Bolu and Sakarya. The army is now encamped outside the great city of Constantinople, or at least it will be Constantinople soon.
The Russian Army crosses the Bosporus in an impressive amphibious operation. A large collection of local vessels, shipping and merchant are seized and pressed into transporting Russian troops between two point, modern day Nakkastepe Mezarligi and Yildiz Park. This location has the benefit of circumventing entirely the twin fortresses which guard the Black Sea entrance to the Bosporus.
To cover the crossing half of the siege artillery and field guns are deployed covering each approach. They are to fire on any ship which approaches the Russian area of operations.
The first to cross are the infantry, followed shortly by the Dragoons and Irregulars. After they are landed the limbered guns will follow and deploy to cover the waterway, after that the remaining guns and a guarding force of Irregulars will follow.
Once across the Bosporus the Army will begin siege operations.
The Army of the South, Anikita Repnin
6,000 Irregulars
4,500 Line Infantry
1,000 Engineers
1,500 Dragoons
175 Field Guns
100 Howitzer
The Howitzers will begin a bombardment of the outer walls of Istanbul with immediate effect. They will look to breach the wall in three places and ensure that surrounding towers are damaged and less capable of covering a Russian advance.
The Field artillery will be deployed in defensive positions, one hundred guns will cover the Bosporus, closing it off to all shipping. The remaining 75 Guns will protect the Russian positions from attempts at relief from friendly forces.
Four Regiments of Regular Infantry and four Regiments of Irregulars will be committed to the siege itself. Along with the Engineers they will begin preparations for an assault of the city, as soon as the walls are breached.
The remaining 500 Line and 2,000 Irregulars will maintain a watch on the Remlihisaru Fortress and a guard over the artillery emplacements.
The 1,500 Dragoons will act as a screening force and will be committed to countering any attempt to sally forth by the occupants. As well as this they will roam the countryside, taking fodder and food, killing scouts and suspected agents and raiding trade convoys.
