A Senior Polish Noble has been implicated in a disastrous massacre in a town not far from his own lands. A band of Cossacks, including women and children, were heading to Warsaw to trade when they were attacked. Wisniowescy, the noble in question, claims he had been tipped off about a raiding party by his Cossack informants. Sending in his personal guard, they acted mercilessly. Needless to say, the Cossacks are in uproar and demand that Wisniowescy be subjected to legal proceedings for his actions.

A minister, aided by a company of the local militia cavalry (from the Minsk Garrison), is dispatched to investigate the situation. He is issued a Royal warrant to search the area and question those involved. He is to gather and analyse the evidence to determine what happened and who is to blame.

The evidence is sketchy, but it seems Wisniowescy genuinely believed that the cossack traders were a raiding party. Still, the brutality with which they were treated raises further questions.

OoC: Also, Uzhgorod is in Hungary/Slovakia/Transylvania at this point it was only absorbed into Ukraine after WWII... IC: The King is deeply concerned at this news, it confirms his belief that the Magnates are too powerful, that they can act in such a way. He consults with a number of scholars of the Polish Law (or Lithuanian depending on where this actually happened...) to see what charges, if any, could be brought.

OoC: I wasn't sure I was simply looking for somewhere close to South West Poland where Cossacks could feasibly roam! Feel free to use either Polish or Lithuanian law.
