OOC: The orders for this march were given at the outbreak of war, I've been told that there isn't anything in my way anymore so I'm assuming I'm good to post the attack.
The Army of the South under the Command of Anakita Repnin has attacked and sacked the city of Rize. After defeating the Steppe forces near Anapa they were able to continue their intended march and pass along the coast and into northern Anatolia.
The first major city on on the Black Sea coast, Rize is a trading port and a regional trade hub. It does however lack any modern defences, possessing only a small and partially ruined medieval castle which dates back to the mid 6th century. Such a 'fortress' was not created to suffer the brutality of siege artillery.
Repnins army sacks the port and slights the castle, using howitzers to breach the walls and then forcing the surrender of the small garrison. If they fail to surrender then they will be killed to a man.
The field guns are positioned to fire directly into the town and the port, holing ships and killing many civilians.
The Cavalry terrorise the nearby countryside, torching villages and slaughtering the non-Christian populations. They feed their mounts from green fodder taken by force.
The army sacks the city and continues swiftly on its march. The Russian Empire is pursuing a new way of war, no quarter and no mercy are shown to the enemy, be they soldier or civilian.
The Army of the South, Anakita Repnin
7,000 Irregulars
4,500 Line Infantry
1,000 Engineers
1,500 Dragoons
175 Field Guns
100 Howitzers
