With the continued absence of Leopold the Tsar has assumed command of the defences of Vienna.
Russian artillery is placed primarily on the curtain walls of the city with cleared lanes of fire and swift supply lines. The crew drill ceaselessly and hundreds of range markers are set in the surrounding terrain, some of which may not appear to be range markers.
The Siege artillery is also placed in positions to defend the city. The heavier guns are tasked mainly with counter battery operations, their longer range and heavy shot should allow them to deal decisive damage to the Ottoman artillery.
Around 50 guns are kept in reserve and split into teams of two guns, they are entrenched at choke points and at the heads of streets. The crews are given ample supplies of canister shot and burlap sacks stuffed with lead balls.
The cities population is put to work clearing houses from around the walls and setting up medical stations at strategic locations. They are also tasked with digging trenches in front of the walls, under the supervision of Russian Engineers.
Food supply will become a problem during a siege, as such the stores have a doubled guard and the distribution of food is handed over to the military.

Overnight the guards posted in Vienna are bewildered as the army they assumed was here to lay siege to their city simply floated around. By morning, there was no sight of Turks, but after a strange flurry of activity, a wooden horse is left in the fields outside the city. It is roughly twice the height of a man, and very crude, evidently hastily assembled, but a note is clearly pinned inside its mouth. When a brave volunteer grabs the note, it is found to be written in ancient Greek by a learned gentlemen of the court. It reads:
"Beware Scythians bearing gifts"
It is clear from the ancient context that 'Scythians' is a thinly veiled metaphor for the Russians.
The Imperial Armies head south.

Prince Eugene is handed the note, which he reads suspiciously before crumpling it up and throwing it to the ground. Glancing at the horse, he simply says "Burn it," before turning and re-entering Vienna.
