Vendome makes his glorious arrival in Munich, the march of his men joined periodically by battalions of Bavarian infantry. Vendome spurred his horse onward, stopping before the steps of the Bavarian foreign ministry. Maximilian kept his waiting not a second before greeting him and inviting him in for Gin. Bavaria will stand for Philip's just claim as recognized by God and Man, and decreed in the final hours of the life of Carlos II. However, it was not all good news, as it was in Munich that the French learned of the rapid march of Prince Eugene. He had narrowly missed the French force at Strasbourg, then at Freudenstadt he made some distance. Now, he was within a days march of the French force. He was outnumbered, and the Franco-Spanish army with their Bavarian allies could defeat him if they wished. Or they could continue their march and pray for no more delays.

With the knowledge of the Ottoman march on Vienna and this recent development in regard to the Prince Eugene, Vendome vacillated for several hours. Were he to engage Eugene and win the decisive battle he sought against the Emperor, it was possible that Leopold would come to terms and avoid a siege of of the capital. Alternatively, Vendome ruminated on the risk of wasting time engaging the Austrians, only to discover the Ottomans already at the gates of his prized treasure in Austria. With no time to write to the King, he had no option but to make a decision there and then.
Upon deliberation with his Spanish and Bavarian allies, it has been decided that battle is to be sought with the forces of Eugene. Coalition forces are to be arrayed upon the high ground to the west of the city at Fürstenfeldbruck in expectation that Imperial forces will soon come into view over the horizon. Artillery positions are prepared and lines of battle are drawn in such a way as to maximize the effect of concentrated musket fire on the hapless advance columns of Eugene.
