Sheremetyev paced slowly away from the siege works, glancing back he prayed the ruse worked. As day broke, the Garrison of Asapa seemed to have no intention of leaving their walls. A messenger was sent to catch up with the General, and he was elated at the news. His elation soon subsided, however, as he glanced over the plains ahead of him and spotted a Tatar army sat atop a hill.
The Crimean Horde, commanded by Devlet II Giray (6/10): Stationed in Crimea
5,000 Irregulars 2,000 Line Infantry 1,500 Steppe Cavalry (A descendant of the very successful Mongol cavalry. Armed with flintlock rifles, they are skilled at firing and reloading during charges) 50 Field Guns
Sheremetyev has the option to engage or withdraw.

Sheremetyev sighed, nothing was ever easy.
"General!!! What are we to do?! The enemy army has the high ground!" A slightly flustered aide galloped up to Sheremetyev. "Then we shall make them pay a hefty price for it!"
Boris galloped to the head of the column, barking out orders and directing officers and regiments.
The Russian infantry swiftly fan out into lines of men 5 ranks deep, the irregulars broke into open formation and began providing cover for the infantry.
The Dragoons immediately form a reserve, close to the line, ready to dash into action if the Crimeans make a gallop. The Militia are thrown out onto the flanks where they act as simply a speed bump.
The Field Guns are dragged forwards on their limbers and formed into batteries in front of the infantry line, they immediately begin pounding the Crimean army. If they insist on holding the high ground then they will be smashed for it.
If the Crimeans choose to attack then the infantry will overtake the guns and form into ranks in order to deliver volleys into the enemy and prevent a wall of bayonets to any charging cavalry.
If the Crimeans stay put then the cannon will smash them until Sheremetyev deems the time ready for an attack.

If Devlet had hoped to intimidate the Russians, it did not seem to be working. Sheremtyev, under moderate artillery fire, called up his own guns while leaving the bulk of his army out of the enemy’s range. The hill was under such heavy fire, that it looked like it may itself crumble. The lines of irregulars were being torn apart, but Sheremetyev focused his aim on the Tatar guns. Although the Russians lost some of their own cannons, it was not long before the guns on the hill stopped firing. At this point, Sheremetyev ordered the slow march towards the enemy, while his guns continued to suppress the hill.
It was on the approach, that Devlet himself led the Tartar cavalry to the Russian flanks, the Line Infantry and Irregulars of Russia struggled to hold off the skirmish, and although they caused some damage, the rapid movements of the Steppes Cavalry made them difficult to pin down. This lasted some time until a one of the Russian cannons fired a lucky shot which hit Devlet’s own horse, sending the former Khan flying. His men seemed not to notice at first, and if he survived the impact, the trampling killed him. Sheremetyev was finally able to gain some purchase against his opponent’s cavalry, as the sacrificial charge of his militia cavalry limited the manoeuvrability of the Tatars. His Line were finally able to cause some damage to the Tatars.
As the cavalry skirmishes subsided, it became clear to the Tatar force that Devlet had been killed. Word filtered through the lines as the Russians advanced, and after only a few exchanges of musket shot the Crimeans broke and fled.

Crimea:
2,000 Irregulars 1,000 Line 750 Steppe Cavalry 50 Field Guns

The Russian army quickly kills any prisoners and continues on its march. The commanders are however changed. Sheremetyev takes control of the Army of Rus whilst Repnin replaces him in command of the Army of the South.
