The grand fleet of the Ottoman Sultan and his Barbary corsair vassals arrives in the Adriatic. Short of 'don't hurt anything with a Venetian or Bourbon flag', the pirates are left to run wild. They are to blockade the Austrian coastal provinces of Lika and Gorz. They are granted full licence to take slaves and cause havoc, even if it depopulates coastal villages. The only regulation is that major ports and inland towns or cities are to be turned over to looting for no more than three days, in accordance with kanun law. After the three days, a captured town is to be treated as a loyal subject of the Ottomans, and governed by law not terror.
The pirates are likely to make the most of this opportunity, as they were promised the chance for loot when called to arms.
Ottoman and Allied Navy: Commanded by Ebubekir Pasha.
9 'Second Rate' Three-deck Ships of the Line
8 'Fifth Rate' Frigates
14 Transports
10 Frigates
28 Galleys
An unknown quantity of Maghrebi troops may be present, but participation was voluntary so no official figure is yet known.

Pope Clement stumbles to his balcony. The assembled mass of terrified Christians crowded St Peter's. "Never have the heathens been so brazen since the fall of the Roman Empire!" He declared, the crowd remained silent. "Our brothers across the peninsula unite. We stand in arms against the heathens, as brothers of Christ we march. To heaven many shall be sent, though only in hell the heathens shall reside."
With Ottoman raids in the Adriatic, and the heathen aggression against Austria, the Papal States, Genoa, Tuscany, Lucca, Modena and Mantua have raised armies to stand against the Ottoman scourge. The Holy Father himself declares support for the war aims of the Grand Alliance.

The Holy Roman Emperor Leopold I asks for the blessing of the Pope in this coming war with the Ottoman invaders. As God's representative on Earth, His Imperial Majesty asks the Pope to see in the Holy Roman Emperor not just a man but God's Christian Solider. We are the pillars of European civilisation, we must unite the Church behind the newly emerging Holy League and channel the resources of our Lord Almighty to repulsing the Ottoman invaders

To the representative of Jesus in Rome, His Holiness Clement XI,
No abomination has been committed against your person or your Church.
In the name of God, the merciful, and the compassionate: I, Ahmet, will send my fleet to Ancona as a sign of my protection after your appeal. We shall ensure that your temporal subjects and your sacred churches are not subjected to the wave of piracy that currently befalls the Adriatic. You may rest assured that your lands and your Papacy are safe, so long as your petty coalition does not debase itself any further through the making of war. Turkey is a Balkan empire, and need not frighten you Italians. If you bring war to us, however, we will have no choice but to return war onto you.
I am Ahmet, Conqueror of Conquerors, Slave of God. Protector of Muslims, Christians and Jews. In my name the hutbe is read in Mecca and Medina. Prayers are read for me in the synagogues and churches of Jerusalem and Constantinople. In Iran, Central Asia and Mesopotamia, I am the Shah. In Christian lands, I am Caesar. In Egypt, my admirals send fleets to the seas of Europe, Africa and India. I am a descendent of the great Suleyman, he who took the Crown and Throne of Hungary and granted them to a gifted slave. I only seek the return of that birthright. If you raise your head in revolt, as the Volvoda of Suleyman’s day, my horse’s hoof shall grind you into the dust.
Thus speaks Ahmet. As God is his witness.

OoC: Unfortunately Medecin Mabuse made an agreement with the Ottoman Empire outside the forum mechanics, i.e. not informing admin. As such, this information, when admin was made aware of such a ludicrous arrangement, was used to help the NPCs prepare. Since the French did not consult admin, they were not able to be made aware of the consequences of their actions, those being the Ottoman war combining with the Spanish War of Succession. The current actors are:
France, Spain, Ottoman Empire.
vs.
The Three Kingdoms of William III The Dutch Republic The Holy League Russia Austria Prussia Hanover Baden (currently Neutral)

OoC: Wow, wow, wow. No. France is in no way allied or affiliated with the Ottomans in any way. So far as I am aware the Ottomans have no position in the war of Spanish Succession.

OoC: The Ottomans aren't involved in the War of Spanish Succession. In fact, we are explicitly operating two parallel wars against Austria in order to prevent awkwardness. I'm pretty sure Admin knew of this arrangement, as the only formal discussion so far has been around Transylvania, but we were too slow to act on it. France has not confirmed any official policy for after the war, and we have no agreements in any other fields.
Where did you get this information from?
Our alliance is literally based on me wanting Austrian territory and France being at war with Austria. There is no agreement in regards to territorial spheres, battle plans or anything. All I know is where the French are marching, and intend to march the same way.
You have made the NPCs prepare for an alliance that does not exist, has not been explicitly proposed, and definitely has not been ratified. It is a fiction.
France has even openly opined against the advances of the Ottoman Turks. Such a thing would be unacceptable in a formal alliance.
I was angling for friendship with France, due to our aligned interests, which is why I was going to exempt all bourbon lands from piratical pillaging when it came time to reward my corsairs.

OOC: By the way, I had no intention of declaring war against the Dutch, Prussia, Hannover etc. The Sublime Porte was neutral on the matter of Spanish Succession as it does not concern us. Could this be reversed in any way? I'm very unclear on what has happened.

So you are allied to a France, who are at war with Austria, and you have now declared war on Austria. Do you not see how that would draw you into the existing war?? You may have seperate aims, but that doesn't alter the basic fact of your involvment.

OOC: I don't know the details of our old truce, and I might be wrong, but I'm pretty sure that if the Ottoman Empire attacked anyone of the Old Holy Alliance (Russia, Austria, Poland) it actives the old alliance - this I will have to check. In the same way, attacking the Emperor of the HRE gives the Emperor power to raise Imperial forces and funds for wars against external aggressors of the Imperial crown - it makes the Empire one and whole, in theory. All this became active when Ottoman forces crossed onto Austrian soil

OoC: There is no Franco-Ottoman alliance. France is actively making an alliance with Venice to reclaim territory ceded to the Ottomans. France is hostile to the Ottomans and opposed to their war aims. It just so happens that the Ottomans have declared war on a country already embroiled in a war with France.

Not yet allied with France. Declared war on mutual enemy as it was the right time to do so. Does declaring war on the Ottomans make Russia an ally of Austria?
France is promising my territory to other states and openly speaking against me. At this stage, I'm not even sure what will happen if we reach the gates of Vienna at the same time. Now I am trapped in the wars of Frenkistan, against a friendly power (the Dutch).
If the coalition wish to declare war on the Ottomans because of my hostility to Austria, that is understandable. At first it just seemed strange as it came via 'pop-up' with no real explanation.
I have, indeed, been friendly towards France in the hopes that a mutual enemy might give me a powerful western backer, but I don't know yet whether this has worked, and the signs don't appear that great. It's been mostly forum flattery with tulip-talk and showing that I can tear through Austria with the best of them. This is all in the 'trying to impress France' stage not the 'we have an alliance and a formal plan' stage.
In conclusion, I accept if the coalition have declared war on me, but the 'agreement' I have with France is a phantom. It is hopes and dreams, and nothing more. They haven't even promised not to shoot at me on sight.

Alright, I have been pondering on the various comments made here, and I am happy to separate the two wars out. The origins of this came from a message sent by Sublime Porte suggesting that: '[f]ollowing a successful campaign, all non-Bourbon Italy will be open to ravaging, as we have been given the go-ahead to do so by the French king.' On reflection, and judging by the response, I imagine this was either misinterpreted by me or intended to mean something different by Sublime Porte. In any case, I hope we can move on from this and continue to have an enjoyable game.
As such, the two wars are as follows:
The Second Great Turkish War
Austria Russia
vs
The Ottoman Empire
The Spanish War of Succession
France Spain Bavaria
vs
Austria (and Imperial Allies) The Dutch Republic England, Scotland and Ireland (Sweden? I'm not quite sure on this one, if anyone could clarify I'd be very grateful)
