A band of Crimean raiders attacked the lands around Azov, clearly overzealous as the Crimean Khan was quick to deny involvement. Still, some of Pyotr's prize semaphore towers were destroyed! An additional 10,000 Ducats will be needed to complete this project. The Khan has offered 500 to help ease the burden.

The Sublime Porte offers, but makes clear that it is only an offer and not a request, to mediate the dispute if necessary. Raiding into Russian lands is a clear contravention of an Ottoman mandate following the Treaty of Constantinople, so the Sublime Porte is satisfied that the Khan is not culpable. However, the return of the Crimeans to their 'national past-time' of enslaving Russians is a worrying development. The Sublime Porte assures Russia that any Ruthenian captives offered to the Palace will be purchased without quibble and returned to their homeland, as a sign of good will.

With the growing hostilities between the Sultan and the Tsar, the Khan withdraws his offer and requests that should the Russians want those guilty, he can come and take them himself.
