Since I assume many of us play EUIV, I thought I'd start here what's going on in the Paradox forums. With a nation customizer (or world customize, since you can create 32 new nations before starting any game) there are lots of interesting ideas for creating alternate history starts of interesting nations. If you have a custom nation idea, or an alternate history idea for EUIV to share, post it here!

My idea for a Gothic, not Frankish, dominated western Europe. Would be more detailed if there was a way to edit the HRE to be more Mediterranean and less German.
The Gothic Centuries Not sure how to deal with/remove HRE, though.
The Battle of Vouillé is won by the Visigoths, halting the rise of the Franks and leaving the Goths to dominate Western Europe for another century. Islamic conquest gets knocked back at Ceuta, not Tours, and Islamic control is pushed all the way back past a resurgent Vandal kingdom.
Gothic Kingdoms:
Hispania: Consists of most of Iberia.
Ostrogothia: Consists of southern Italy and an enclave around Ravenna, created when Visigothic adventurers migrated en masse to reconquer the old territories of Theodoric the Great. They created a number of small kingdoms later consolidated into one, but failed to conquer the northern heartland of Lombardia.
Toulouse: Same dynasty as Hispania, the Kingdom of Toulouse is more prestigious but less powerful and rules over the provinces of Aquitaine which are constantly contested by the Franks.
Suebia: Consists of north-western Iberia. Personal union with Hispania, same dynasty if not possible, but Coptic Religion (representing that they are still Arian after the conversion of most Goths, close enough)
Vandal Kingdoms
Vandals: Catholic north african state, controls Sardinia.
Carthago: A Vandal splinter state. A Catholic Republic that controls Tunis, Malta and half of Sicily.
Vandalusia: A Sunni Muslim Vandal successor state ruled by converts from the conquest. Muslim tech group.
Aurasium: Semi-nomadic Alan tribesmen (Kurdish culture? Closest available?), Catholic-converts from Arianism that protect the sedentary people from the desert tribes. Tribal despotism, eastern tech.
North African tribes:
Mauri: Replaces Morocco. Catholic, Muslim tech.
Garamantia: Replaces Fezzan, slightly larger. Sunni, Muslim tech.
Gaetulia: Between Vandals and Mauri. Stuck between Islam and Christendom, they made the odd choice to convert to Judaism. Jewish tribal despotism, muslim tech.
Wargla: Berber Tribal Federation. Animist, African tech.
Other:
Vasconia: Independent Basque Kingdom in northern Iberia.
West Francia: What remains of northern France, and a good helping of the HRE.
East Francia: A wiggling worm to the east, between Saxony and Alemannia. Same dynasty as West Francia (Merovingi?)
Saxony: Catholic kingdom. Widukind as dynasty name (assuming there is an attempted Frankish conquest, successful rebellion and then much later voluntary conversion in 11th century.
Frisian Republic: Noble republic, Dutch, consists of east Frisia and half of netherlands.
Alemannia: HRE lands roughly corresponding to the Frankish duchy. Same dynasty as East Francia.
Bavaria: Swathe of south-eastern HRE, including Austria.
Burgundy: Not the vanilla Burgundy, but the old kingdom. Maybe same dynasty as Hispania (after long periods of Gothic suzerainty, an inheritance by a dynast isn't unlikely. There would be much intermarriage)
Lombardia: A still-powerful rump state, weakened by the rise of merchant republics and the loss of territory to Gothic adventurers, the Italianized Lombards still go strong.
Rough map:
Most could be done with the nation creator, and the number of countries is allowed. Only question is how to represent a few cultures, and the Arian faith. May just have blanket Catholicism, but that's less exciting.
