It is with raucous excitement, singing and drumming that the Duc de Vendome's cavalcade passes by the Cathedral of Our Lady of Strasbourg at the head of an army bedecked in marshal regalia and merry on the pride and honour of serving in the Sun King's forces. All the panoply of state that Strasbourg could muster is proudly displayed as the city bids the King's men goodbye on their serried march out of the city gates to the east.
