The Military Frontier, established under Ferdinand I von Habsburg, Holy Roman Emperor, in the years following his election by the Croatian parliament as King of Croatia, has for nearly 200 years formed the crux of Austria's southern defences. Taking advantage of the many varying mountain ranges that stretch across the back of the Balkans and their wide valleys, and, tributaries that feed the mighty Danube, it is blends natural defences seamlessly with purposefully built Austrian fortifications.
However, certain areas are in need of urgent repair and along some stretches of the newly acquired Kingdom of Hungary the old Ottoman forts are both ancient and totally unusable.
Vienna has decided that the Military Frontier is in need of upgrades and significant structural expansions along some stretches so as to ensure the defensive line is suited for the modern military age.
The aim is to create a defensive range in the south which can be in some regards comparable to the natural defensive line provided by the Alps in the west
The Emperor asks that his top structural military engineers survey the Military Frontier and 'weak-points' along the southern frontier of Hungary in order to draw up a rough estimate for the project
OOC: If I invest significantly into this defensive line, and commit to its transformation and modernisation, could it potentially be turned into a National Modifier, at Admins discretion of course?

OoC: It probably won't become national modifier, but if you draw up some plans for fort building I can quote you a price and you can use the forts to house men, making it difficult for invaders to occupy your territory.

OOC: Not to worry, just an inquiry. Okay, I shall look into it and draw some plans up

For new top of the range star forts, the current construction price is 30,000 a piece. That would be 120,000 overall. You can pay this in a single go, or you can pay an annual sum until the project is complete.

Not really, the rebels aren't the skilled labourers you'd require, and it won't reduce the cost of building materials. You can pay less and get forts that aren't of the same quality, however.

It was worth running it by you first nonetheless. However, thinking about it again, such labour tactics in Europe at this time would have been unheard of. Instead, I shall pa for the two forts in the county of Sloweien. The state shall put aside 5,000 ducats for each (10,000) in total for their construction. We shall build them up gradually, so that money is still around for other matters

We shall make it one new fort in the county of Sloweien at a cost of 5,000 ducats a year for now
However, it shall be placed at the junction of the Danube and Tisia rivers
