Peter watched as his small force of Life Guards paraded around the mustering fields of Narva and drilled through their battlefield formations. But he was dismayed that without their banners you could not distinguish them from the mass of Russian infantry. Their green uniforms were indeed practical and very cheap to make, but they did not inspire. Peter has decided that this just will not do! He disappears into his study for several hours before reappearing with a brand new uniform design. The Life Guards will not wear white britches and a white coat with dark green epaulettes and golden buttons.
Alongside this the men of the Guard will now wear a bearskin cap. The cap will measure eighteen inches tall and shall be made from black fur. The introduction of the hat is designed to make the men of the Guard more visually intimidating and was chosen as the men fight like bears themselves!
The regular regiments of infantry are issued with black felt Shakos with a raised front to replace their current tricorn hats.
The Cavalry regiments of the Imperial Guard are issued with uniforms similair to those of the Life Guards.
Meanwhile across the Empire a decision has been taken regarding the use of Irregulars. It is decided that irregulars should train to fight in open order and to shoot with greater accuracy. Irregulars in open order using cover are intended to cause great damage to inflexible lines of infantry firing in volleys.
