A French envoy arrives in Brandenburg in the hopes of negotiating a separate peace between France and the Elector of Prussia. Should Prussia agree to the terms offered and disavow itself of the Grand Alliance, France will recognize the elector as King of Prussia and recognize its claims upon whatever territories of the Emperor it desires, in addition, France will provide financial incentives and an annual stipend if the elector were to openly support France's claim on the Spanish throne.

The King in Prussia, as he insists on being referred to, turns his nose at the French accent of the envoy. Much to the envoy's confusion, the Elector gives the impression that he despises the French despite having his palace designed much like a cheap imitation of Versailles.
