Following the humbling of the army of the Duke of Savoy, his Imperial Highness, Leopold I, is offering Savoy a way out. He asks that Savoy come to the negotiating table and make peace with the Grand Alliance. We are reasonable men and a reasonable peace we can surely work out.
We hope to hear from he Duke of Savoy soon. But the armies of Austria are on the march north. However, this we can stop should the Duke of Savoy wish to join us at the table sooner rather than later.
The Terms will be fair

Terms:
1.) Savoy will pay an annual indemnity of 1000 ducats to Austria until 1712. Payments set to start immediately
2.) Savoy will adhere to the Grand Alliance
3.) Savoy will annul all alliances with the Kingdom of France and the Kingdom of Spain
4.) The armies of Savoy will be put at the disposal of Austria's war effort
In return,
1.) Austria will allow the Duke of Savoy to retain his title, powers as Duke and Savoyard inheritance

The Duke of Savoy relays his counter proposals:
1) Savoy will pay an annual payment of 500 Ducats until 1715.
2) Savoy will sign and adhere to the Grand Alliance treaty, provided that the aim remains to split the Spanish Empire on the terms of the Partition Treaty of 1699.
3) Savoy agrees to annul treaties with France, but reminds the Duke that his daughter is married to Philip of Spain. As such he requests that she not be harmed in any of the coming troubles.
4) The armies of Savoy will continue to be commanded by the Duke, but he will put them to use pressing the cause of the Grand Alliance.
5) He insists that Austria has no right to replace him as Duke, nor deny the line of succession as such matters are decided by God and only He. He explains to the diplomat that the renowned theologian Leopold should recognise this to be true. The Duke is willing to take the matter to the Bishop of Rome, should such a statement be made again.

Austrian counter proposal:
1.) Savoy will pay 700 ducats annually to Austria until 1710
2.) Savoy will sign and adhere to the Grand Alliance, regardless, and in return the Duke will be awarded ownership of the county's of Novara (as of this year), Sassari, and Cagliari under any peace treaty signed at a later date
3.) Savoy agrees to annul treaties with France - but this is not necessary for Spain. The price of this being that Savoy allow the armies of Austria military access through Savoy until 1712
4.) By Grace of God, Austria will see that no harm comes to the family of the Duke of Savoy, for we are reasonable men, our targets not being individuals. No harm will come to the daughter of the Duke of Savoy
5.) The armies of Savoy will continue to be commanded by the Duke, but he will put them to use pressing the cause of the Grand Alliance
There also appears to be some confusion. We never suggested removing the Duke of Savoy and his line of succession. This is the next clause, which was the final clause of our first suggestions. But this is a given, and can therefore be struck from our treaty

The treaty freshly drawn up by Austrian diplomats is of a rather simple nature, lacking any grandeur and decorative finishes common to peace treaties of this era.
The opening paragraph went to great lengths to reaffirm the friendship and close links between House Savoy and House Habsburg, stating that the current hostilities between the two was in fact an unfortunate event, but one that can be easily forgotten
The Treaty clauses were then listed as follows: The Treaty of Nice
1.) Savoy will pay 700 ducats annually to Austria until 1710,
2.) Savoy will sign and adhere to the Grand Alliance, regardless, and in return the Duke will be awarded ownership of the county's of Novara (as of this year), Sassari, and Cagliari under any peace treaty signed at a later date,
