The Imperial Army, commanded by Prince Eugene, has been ordered to march across the shallow Ticino tributary and make an immediate march south west on the army of Savoy, commanded by Victor Amadeus II and force him to battle at the base of the southern Alpine passes.
Meanwhile, Prince Eugene's extreme right flank is to be covered by the shadow force, the Army of Austria, commanded by Count Starhemberg. The smaller, but faster moving and therefore more flexible force of Count Starhemberg will swing round from the north out of Spanish Lombardy and thus secure/cut the major road that connects Nice to the Savoyard capital, and prevent Victor Amadeus II from moving north to Turin. (Count Starhemberg is to fully commit to battle should Victor Amadeus II turn north, and use his force to delay and hold the retreating enemy, causing maximum possible damage).
Both armies are subject to the will of Prince Eugene, with the movements of the Austrian army subservient to the goals of the Imperial Army, and thus shall remain in constant, continual contact through horse ridden courier.
