Saxony is a State of the Empire ruled by the Albertine branch of the House Wettin. The majority of the State is made up of the Electorate of Saxony, with several Ducal appanages of the Ernestine branch (Saxe-Weissenfels, Saxe-Merseburg, and Saxe-Zeitz). The Electorate is ruled directly by the Elector, who is liable only to Imperial Law. The Ducal appanages have some autonomy, but are bound by a complex legal framework to the Electorate and in practice were ruled directly too (due to the Dukes being heavily involved in the Saxon political/military scene). The legal framework prevents the inheritance of the duchies from passing outside of the Electorate, and should any die without a clear succession that maintains their position within Saxony, the inheritance passes to the Elector.
Saxe-Merseburg - Mauritz Wilhelm, in minority, August II regent
Saxe-Weissenfels - Johann Georg
Saxe-Zeitz - Mauritz Wilhelm
Saxony maintains its own system of Roman law, within the framework of Imperial Roman law. The Saxon judiciary is independent with prerogative to set and find precedents based on the natural law of man.
Issues of complexity that judges cannot confidently solve are raised to the Electoral Court to be judged by the Elector and his appointed Justices (led by the Lord Chancellor). Positions at the bar, and within the Saxon College of Justices are by Electoral Comission and Appointment respectively.
Legislation comes directly from the Elector, with no need to consult the Saxon Diet, which operates as another court and consulting body.
