Leopold Joseph of Austria, grandson of Emperor Leopold I by his eldest son Joseph (current Habsburg heir), appears to be seriously unwell (Hydrocephalus). Leopold I demands that the best doctor in the land be summoned to the capital at once!
In the mean time we pray to the Lord for guidance, and for hope.

The dutch physician Steven Blankaart arrives at the court at Vienna. The only solution he can find for the child's condition is a risky medieval operation whereby a hole is bored into the skull. He warns the Emperor that such a procedure is highly dangerous as the risk of permanent damage is highly likely, and the possibility of infection is another consideration.

The likely damage is not worth the risk. No operation is to be attempted.

Despite the Emperor Leopold's prayers, the infant dies. He has been christened Archduke Leopold Joseph, and the theologians ascertain that he must be in heaven, cradled by the Lord God himself.
