Austria apologises for any inconvenience caused at this time. All troops were under strict instruction not to cause any disruption while crossing from Austria into Spanish Lombardy via Venice through its most northern point.

"Bonasera... what have I done to deserve such disrespect? Have I not held you as a friend? And now you come to me, on this, the day of the National Festival, and tell me of an Austrian invasion?"
The tailor, Bonasera, the Doge's personal tailor, simpered, and cowered, "Oh, Doge, I have not meant any disrespect... My wife, she is ill, and I must tend to..."
The Doge, shrouded in shadow, lifts a hand to halt the stream of platitudes.
"Please, Bonasera," he said, "I absolve you. Go to your home, and I will send my physician. You have my blessing. Once your wife is better, I will visit for canoli and coffee."
Bonasera, pleased, bowed and bowed, before taking his leave. The Doge thought long and hard. The Austrians had probably made some sort of mistake. It didn't really matter. A cat crossed his desk, and he stroked it.
