"My God that boy does war honour"... August sighed under his breath as he surveyed a map in his Palace at Dresden, "In one battle, he has spread us out piecemeal. Humbugged"
He was tracing lines on the map in his head, directions of march, areas of possible resistance, distance, times, obstacles... trying to decide what the Swedish Boy-King would do next...
He could strike towards Smolensk, taking that fortress would be the staging ground necessary to march on Moscow...
He could march on Minsk, place his army directly between the Russians and Poles...
Or he could march on Poland, hit Warsaw. Normally he would discount that possibility at this stage, the march from Kovno to Warsaw was not an easy one, with Polish forces in Minsk on his flank, but Charles was rewriting the rules of war with his manoeuvres...
That is the most likely, he decides, march on Warsaw and try to knock the Commonwealth out in a swift blow... the szlachta make the commonwealth the weak link.
He abandons his plans to seize Pommerania, and makes the preparations for the Saxon Army to march to Warsaw, he drafts orders for the Army of Poland, stationed in Podlasie to march for Białystok, holding one of very few bridges over the Biała, and the only one on the main road towards Warsaw. Their orders are to contest the crossing, to avoid engagement that is not favourable to them. The objective isn't to stop the Swedish from ever crossing, but to slow them down, and either force them to take disproportionate losses forcing a crossing, or waste time finding a different crossing point up river.
The force is then to retreat to Wyszków the only bridge over the Bug on or near the road (there was a serious lack of bridges in Poland, it doesn't help that what few there were were destroyed during the World Wars...), where they will again contest the crossing. By this point new orders are likely to have been issued regarding the Army of Saxony which should be arriving around Warsaw.
OoC: Am I allowed to move the Armies in Warsaw and Minsk?
OVERVIEW:
Army of Saxony to Warsaw
Army of Poland to contest crossing of Biała river outside Białystok (a delay action, not seeking decisive battle)
Army of Poland to withdraw to Wyszków and contest crossing of Bug river (a delay action, likely to be amended by changing circumstances)
