Once again the Holy Roman Empire faces an external threat amassing on its borders, the result of a conflict that has been brewing unresolved in the background of European politics for over a decade. The conflict in question is unlikely to be resolved diplomatically. However, in war, as in times of peace, protecting the Holy Roman Empire remains, as it always has, the first imperative of the Kaiser; his unquestionable duty to the Reich and her peoples as Emperor. The responsibility holds a central place of influence over all his decisions and will continue to do so, regardless of whether they concern the House of Habsburg or not. In order, however, to protect the security and integrity of the Holy Roman Empire aboard on the European plain, against those states that may wish to exploit the Reich's decentralised character at the expense of its sovereigns, the Kaiser must be confident of stability in the Empire at home
I therefore request at this time that the Reich's Electors reaffirm their loyalty to the Imperial Crown and the Emperor whose authority and powers it currently endows
Signed, Leopold I von Habsburg, Holy Roman Emperor
**This message is to be sent by order of the Emperor with all haste to each of the Imperial Electors**

Most of the responses are positive. The Platinate refrains from offering full support for the Emperor as their borders with France leave them vulnerable should they be considered a hostile power. The Elector of Brandenburg and King in Prussia recites the deal made with Austria the previous year, whereby he will provide trained soldiers to Austria in return for half of their upkeep being paid by the Imperial treasury. George of Hannover also offers the same deal, though whether this is out of loyalty to the Emperor or a way to raise his profile before his wife Anne Stuart succeeds the throne (as agreed by the English parliament should William die without an heir), is unclear. Bavaria does not respond.

The Emperor is pleased with the responses of the Imperial Electors.
The Emperor hereby bestows his imperial grace upon those above who have reaffirmed their loyalty to the crown, plus an additional 500 ducats for each (The Palatinate, Brandenburg, Hannover).
The Emperor looks forward to hearing from the Elector of Saxony greatly - House Wettin played an important role during the Great Turkish War from which a natural alliance with House Habsburg sprung.
We shall keep our eyes on Bavaria over the coming months.
