Northern Europe is gripped by a vast and terrible war, with little sign of ending soon. Russia, Saxony and Denmark agreed to split the Swedish Empire between them, with Denmark getting Sweden, Russia getting Finland and Estonia and Saxony getting Swedish Pomerania.
Belligerents:
Defenders' goal: Hold Swedish Pomerania, Finland and Estonia.
Sweden Holstein-Gottorp
vs.
Attackers' goal: Occupy Swedish Pomerania, Estonia and Finland.
Russia Zaphrozie Saxony Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth
1700
Denmark-Norway, Saxony and Russia schemed together to destroy the Swedish Empire and divide it among themselves. Denmark invaded Sweden's ally, Holstein-Gottorp, and Sweden sent it's Navy and army to help relieve the attack. Meanwhile, Russia positioned it's armies to take out Sweden's territories in Finland and Estonia.
Additional pressure had been placed on Denmark's invasion when England and the Netherlands supported the Swedes in Holstein, and Denmark was forced to drop out of the War.
Charles XII of Sweden then went East to face Russia, laying siege to Narva. The result was a crushing defeat for the Russians and forced them back into their own borders to regroup.
1701
Turning to face their last undefeated enemy, Poland (which had joined the war when Augustus II was elected King), the Swedish army has crossed the Duma and now has free roam in Polish territories.
