Pavel, a moderately successful merchant, was unloading his wares in Archangelsk. He believed he could gain a tidy profit from his wares, mostly sourced from Dutch merchants returning from the colonies.
A load roar echoed across the sky. Thunder? No, the weather was surprisingly good in Archangelsk, and not a drop of rain could be felt. He turned, and saw it. The Swedish-Danish allied fleet could be sighted at the far end of the Dvina delta. Galleys soared through the barely navigable waters, and Arcangelsk's poorly equipped fort opened fire. The incoming fleet, which had struggled to overcome the impregnable port of Hamburg were no match for the Russian sea defenses. The Galleys came in first, destroying the merchant ships, Pavel's body was never recovered. A couple of frigates tentatively started to make their way across the delta. They barraged the town with cannonfire, and incendiary weapons. The town stood no chance, fires began raging and the port was quickly devoured by the inferno. The fleet sailed back out to sea, one of the Swedish frigates managed to become grounded, the fort commander leaped on the opportunity and fired until the hull was no longer recognisable.
Archangelsk burns to the ground, it is no longer capable of hosting a navy and trade income is affected.
Swedish losses:
- 1 galley sunk, 2 damaged - 1 frigate sunk, 1 damaged
