Types of Naval Unit:
‘Second Rate’ Three deck ship of the line:
Cost: 25,000 ducats
This ship is designed to engage decisive engagements at sea. Boasting a staggering 90 guns, these ships for the mainstay of the naval battle line. They are not as fast and manoeuvrable as frigates, meaning that they are not as well suited to guerre du course or patrol functions, they do, however excel at the coercive aspects of gunboat diplomacy.
Power rating: 8
‘Fifth Rate’ Frigate:
Cost: 20,000 ducats
These 40 gun ships are hardly the go to ship for a naval engagement and would quickly be overwhelmed by their three deck cousins. However, the frigate is the work horse of the navy. They are in their element in patrol, guerre du course and blockade functions.
Power rating: 6
Galley
Cost: 18,000 ducats
These ships have an advantage in fighting in inland seas such as the Mediterranean and the Baltic and as such are the favoured ship of nations who line their shores. While the galley has advantages in inland waters, users must bear in mind that it is fundamentally a light ship.
Power rating: 5
Transport
Cost: 13,000 ducats
The stalwart of any naval expedition, the transport can carry 1,000 soldiers in one delivery. It also carries out the essential supply operations for overseas expeditions. Failure to give this lightly armed ship protection can lead to dire consequences.
