Maximilian Henry, Prince-Bishop of Munster, Liege and Cologne has died.
His succession is an important one. Munster is relatively powerful state, and is generally held in personal union with Liege and Cologne. Ultimately, the Pope has the final say on the successor. Though other important figures might believe they should have a say. Historically, the succession in Munster has been used by France and the Empire to compete for influence in the West. The Pope can chose a successor using any criteria he sees fit, he can appoint three new Prince-Bishops and divide apart the personal union, he can even create a larger personal union by placing the lands under the control of another incumbent Prince-Bishop.

The Pope has delivered his verdict.
The Prince-Bishopric will indeed be split into three parts. The Bishopric of Liege will be held by Jean-Louis d'Elderen, a French priest that drew the Pope's attention through his kind works of charity. The Bishopric of Cologne will be given to the care of Werner Braumann, a German priest who will also be made a Cardinal. Lastly, the Bishopric of Munster will be taken by Frederick-Christian of Plettenburg.
