Preparations are made so that nothing will be left for the Polish blasphemers. Everything of value is taken within the walls of the major cities, the army collects all livestock, with that which cannot be collected being slaughtered and used to poison wells. The crops and grain storages which are outside of the cities are burned and the civilian populace is ordered to make its way into the cities.

The Polish outriders survey the carnage, "Those poor Ukrainians, how many will survive the winter do you think?",
"They had it coming, when you allow the Russians to march in, you can kiss goodbye to being treated with dignity",
"They were fooled all right, make no mistake. Still, for them our liberation will come too late."
The scouts turn back, to report their findings to the commander.

The Militia Cavalrymen break through the eaves of the forest to stare upon the former Wojewodstwo of Smolensk.
"We should go to war with the Russians more often, our job has been done for us!" jokes one to the other,
"We aren't coming to burn the bloody land, Ludwik you fat moron. We wanted to save these poor people. The Grand Duke truly is a monster", states the other impatiently.
The cavalrymen turn for home. But they wonder what sufferings the poor Ruthenians must be going through. Ludwik thought about how the grain prices would increase, and how his family's income would be bolstered... what a bastard.
