Doge Pietro Durazzo of Genoa has served his two terms in office, and is now up for election. Following a run of poor luck, Genoa has miraculously resufaced and is undergoing somewhat of a Golden Age, with the Doge enjoying considerable influence over Spanish financial markets.
Of course, elections are won with money. And two candidates have announced that they will stand against Durazzo in the coming race. Luca Spinola, a member of one of the most grand and established Italian noble families. He has been acclaimed for his role in rebuilding the capital city after bombardment by French ships and brings with him significant support from merchants and financiers. Mario Odescalchi, coming from family that recently ascended to the top of Italian politics through their financial dealings will also be standing.
Spinola is the current front-runner, more to follow...

Mario Odescalchi thanks the Emperor for his support. Genoa has always seen itself as an outsider in the Empire and has acted with almost full independence. Such a position has been justified through the Doge's position as King of Corsica, a title that lies outside Imperial control. Mario believes he will require around 15,000 Ducats to invest in bribery his campaign. Such an amount would likely be enough to bring him into power.
