His imperial majesty, Holy Roman Emperor Leopold I, arrived, for the first time in his life, in the city of Güstrow - the capital of the Duchy of Mecklenburg-Güstrow. The large Austrian diplomatic party, escorted by the Emperors guard of honour, who where leading the route on horse back, casually made its way through the streets of Güstrow, admiring as they went its beautiful architecture. Leopold I himself, a keen a secret admirer of architecture and architectural studies, commented "one could be mistaken when they assert God built heaven in Vienna". The procession, moving at walking pace, was followed up by members of the Emperors guard of honour walking on foot, each though was dressed exquisitely, in dashing white and red uniforms. There was no question about where such a procession was heading, and soon enough they arrived at the gates of the Güstrow Palace. The Emperor, who was dressed rather modestly for the occasion, stepped out from his imperial carriage, strangely insisting he could do it himself, and with his diplomatic core as well as chief advisors waited to be welcomed into the palace. The Emperor was said have commented " I am so pleased that I have travelled here on this day, we must not forget our most northern brothers, I look forward to meeting Duke Gustav Adolph". It is rumoured that Leopold has travelled to discuss the pressing security situation on the Baltic, and its wider relation to the northern reach of the HRE.

Leopold has arrived at a somewhat uncertain time for the Duchy. Mecklenburg had forcibly expelled it's Jewish financiers, and many more Jews had fled, leaving the trading havens bare. Mecklenburg would love to aid the Emperor in pursuing greater security in the North, a region which has been relatively ignored in recent times due to the Ottoman threat in the South. However, the financial situation in the Empire is dire, and the Duke pleads with Leopold to find a solution to the crisis that does not involve the treacherous Jews.
