Many of you will have played a forum game before, but for those who haven't here are the basics!
You will play as a particular European leader. Your job is to run your nation(s) effectively and attempt to follow your personal ambitions. To to this you will roleplay with your character and try to achieve your aims. You will be posting in your country's page. If you have multiple territories, you should post in the region that holds your administrative capital, e.g. The Ottomans would post in Istanbul. To engage in public diplomacy (see below) you will post in the page related to your target. Similarly, military action in another country should be posted in the relative thread.
This game will start in 1685, and will progress at the rate of one year to one week IRL. We will try to end the year each weekend. However, extensions may be necessary if there is a lot going on. If an extension is made, you'll be informed about the updated schedule.
During peacetime you can concentrate on increasing your income, achieving political and religious stability, expand your empire or whatever else you might think of.
In wartime, you will be pitted against either another player or against an admin controlled Nation. To win you must be able to use your army and navy as well as plan your resources effectively, often a war will be reduced to a battle of wits between yourself and another player - take the time to familiarise yourself with different unit types and varieties of warfare. Covert action is a major part of the game, if you wish to engage in covert action send a message to the admins and we will let you know whether the plan succeeds or not. Bear in mind that once a covert action is completed there is a chance that it could be traced back to you.
Diplomacy is a huge factor in 'Leviathan'. You can agree public treaties will other players, or with admin controlled factions. You can do the same privately by sending private messages to other players, or to Admin controlled nations - beware though, private agreements are naturally more likely to be broken and other players may become suspicious. In times of great strife, a player can take it upon themselves to organise a summit, to which a representative from all nations should attend. It is up to the other players if they wish to get involved in the talks or not. This can backfire though, and a failed summit could damage your diplomatic reputation. The measures which you can achieve are almost boundless.

Some additional points:
- Overall precision, historical research, creativity and genuine good play will be rewarded by the admins.
- Try to avoid time travel, you can assume that your character is aware of all historical, philosophical and cultural events up until the point of play. You can also reference the actions of other players (accurately or twisted into propaganda) and admin will make you aware of any other advancements.
- Although historical accuracy is not incredibly important in 'Leviathan', do try to keep your actions within the bounds of reason. Prussia isn't about to declare it's support for France and Venice isn't about to mend old rivalries with the Ottoman Empire.
- Try to separate posts that are out of character using OOC. This helps the game flow as people can quickly see what you are posting on your behalf or on the behalf of your character.
