After months of preparation the greatest army ever assembled under a Russian monarch is ready to go to war. Supplies have been requisitioned over the winter months and stored along with fodder, ammunition, winter clothing and weapons.
The army is marching to relieve the righteous forces currently re-taking Narva from the Swedish invaders. Word is spread that Orthodox people are being brought under the protection of Russia and that the great Tsar Pyotr will not allow his people to be abused and mistreated by Swedish overlords and the Carolinian underlings!
The Army of Gordon will send a detachment of men under General Poruchic Karl Evald von Rönne noted for his ability to remain cool under pressure and agressively seize opportunities when they are presented. He is given a detachment of 1,000 Dragoons 8,000 Irregulars and 50 seige Howitzers to take the Nyenschantz star fort at the mouth of the Neva estuary. Rönne will march along the Northern bank of the estuary with his dragoons acting as scouts and his artillery protected within the ranks of marching irregulars. They will march from the Russian province of Ladoga and lay seige to the fort as soon as possible.
They will deploy the artillery to the eastern side of the fort at Nyenschantz and begin a concentrated bombardment immediately. The Dragoons will scour the countryside for enemy reinforcements and locals attempting to raise militias. Once the howitzers have sufficiently degraded the Tenailles and fortifications there will be a large infantry assault. A first wave of 1,000 men will hopefully take the lower tenailles with the following waves of 1,000 men securing the fort. The garrison is estimated at its usual 250 men, but Rönne is prepared to deal with an enlarged garrison as the fort is not especially modern and seems to have been neglected. Once they have secured the fort they will garrison it and send 1 Regiment of dragoons back to join the main force attacking Ivangorad.
Whilst this is occuring the main force of the Army of Gordon will march from Ladoga west into Ingermarland. They will march upon the twin forts of Ivangorod and Hermanni Linnus (Narva) which sit opposite one another with the Narva estuary in the middle. The army will lay siege to the fort of Ivangorod, with the heavy siege howitzers deploying and entrenching facing the eastern walls. They will be protected from any fire that the Hermanni Linnus fort might be able to provide. The walls of Ivangorod are relatively tall medieval style walls and thus an infantry assault with ladders would be beyond useless. Therefore the artillery will collapse the walls to allow the infantry in. The Line infantry will launch the first assault and shall be reinforced by regiments of the Life Guards. Gordon will be careful to avoid clogging the breaches with too many men as this would hold up the attack.
The Engineering corps will entrench the guns and begin construction of tunnels and other siege works in order to facilitate a swfit victory.
Whilst the siege is underway elements of the field artillery will be entrenched along the eastern bank of the river, north of Ivangorod. They will be protected by irregulars and shall deliver heavy lead balls to any ships which attempt to traverse the waters in order to relieve the fort.
The bulk of the infantry force will make a fortified camp behind the siege lines, they will be outside of cannon range and shall construct earth and wood ramparts to protect them from a rear attack. Five Regiments of Line Infantry will deploy to the siege lines which will consist of trenches and small earthworks. They will be required to repulse any attempt by the garrison to sally forth.
The dragoons will scour the countryside for supplies as well as scouting for enemy reinforcements and protecting our lines of supply. There is not expected to be a large amount of unrest as most of the population is Orthodox and resentful of the recent attrocities. The Ulans and Hussars will form a large cavalry reserve which Gordon will commit to cutting off any attempt to reinforce or relieve the garrison. They will not be wasted in an assault as Gordon wishes to preserve their strength.
A small forces of men, cavalry and guns will cross the river south of Ivangorod and move up to a curve in on the western bank of the river. They will cross the river at the following co-ordeinates (59.367200, 28.208403) and construct artillery positions at the following co-ordinates (59.372183, 28.202514). The positions will consist of earth wood. The guns will be placed within a small copse of trees and shall fire upon the bridge connecting Hermanni Linnus and Ivangorod in order to prevent the two garrisons reinforcing each other. The cavalry contingent shall intercept supplies and reinforcements whilst the infantry defend the guns. Five companies of Engineers will cross with the force in order to establish gun positions and a small earthen fort.
This force will consist of:
1 Regiment of Life Guards
2 Regiments of Line Infantry
1 Battery of Field Artillery
2 Regiments of Hussars
500 Engineers
Once Ivangorod is taken Gordon will begin to move troops and artillery to attack Hermanni Linnus.
In the case of Swedish forces engaging in the open field Gordon (myself) will issue new orders detailing the order of battle.
Orders of march have been sent to the Administrators.
