An important diplomatic party arrives after many weeks of traveling to the Spanish capital of Madrid. The diplomatic party wastes no time taking in the beautiful sites of one of Europe's most stunning and cultured cities, instead they head straight, with speed, to the Royal palace of King Charles II. Upon arriving at the palace they ask politely, and in the name of Leopold I, Holy Roman Emperor, that they be allowed audience with is Royal majesty the King of Spain as well as his leading advisors. The leader of the diplomatic party, the charismatic and young Austrian General von Stutterheim, commented "We carry with us two documents from the Court in Vienna; a personal letter from his Imperial majesty Leopold I to his Royal majesty the King of Spain, and a diplomatic document from the Court of Vienna its self. We are here today to build on the strong relations both the nations of Spain and Austria already have, and further strengthen our positions in Europe. We come on this day to discuss an alliance between Europe's two larger Hapsburg states, we ask that the Spanish Court allow us a chance to hand these documents over to our brother Charles II, by the grace of God let us build a safer Europe for all time"

The court of the King is, as usual, divided on this point. Charles is inclined to side with his Austrian cousins, however it is clear to Leopold that he has little more than a childlike pride for the Hapsburg dynasty. Leopold has a rare experience of viewing the Spanish court at work, the factionalism was very apparent. Without a clear leader in the room, the King relied heavily on his religious adviser, Diego Valladares. Though the Grand Inquisitor seemed fairly reluctant to take a side, the court agrees that they should work on a combined strategy against France, but suggests that Leopold take residence in a local villa while they decide on the full proposal.

The diplomatic party is happy to do so, they do not want to rush the decision making process of the Spanish court. Vienna would like it to be know that it looks forward to hearing from the Spanish court, and that if an alliance was to be worked out Austria would aid Spain in keeping control of its European holdings
OCC Leopold was never in Spain, while this was taking place he was drawing up plans for the rebuilding of Frankfurt, taking a keen and particular interest in the trees that would line many of the grand streets

OOC: Ah ok, I misread the first post.
The Spanish Court does not believe that an alliance with the HRE is in their best interests at this time. However, they do hope to see improved relations with the Austrian branch of the Hapsburgs in the future.
