Amid the King's assurances that the man is capable of the task, Pelletier, French Controller-General of Finances, commences the overseeing and directorship of a centralized Royal financial institution in Paris. The move is an attempt to modernize and rationalize French financial and monetary practices and national infrastructure. A large and well funded bureaucracy of civil servants is recruited and invested with the King's authority to impose whatever immediate legislation is required to modernise French financial affairs.

The senior French banking families, led by the Rohan-Rohan and the De La Roche, request to know more details. They hope that Pelletier will include them in discussions and ensure that their interests are comfortably protected.

They are politely informed that they are indeed invited to hear details of the financial modernization described, and that the Sun King sees fit to protect their existing interests. They are however courteously informed that conversion to the true faith of Roman Catholicism would guarantee inclusion and the King's benefaction in whatever matters concern them.

The majority of the families are indeed Huguenot. However, having had everything else taken from them, they will not allow their religion to be usurped similarly. Instead, they threaten to leave, and take their assets with them, to more enlightened pastures should Louis fail to include them due to their religion.
For the bank itself, you will need to invest around 5,000 to hire all the staff needed. Though the transfer of loans from fragmented banking dynasties will be much easier with the families on board. If they are not, the formation of the bank may lead to a brief period of economic decline (tax and trade will be affected). Of course, there are other ways to get them on side...

They are informed that the French state does not take kindly to being threatened. They are again informed of the merit in conversion. Should they see reason and abide by the King's wish, they will be afforded great financial reward and clout in the new financial regime. Their ventures and assets will receive whatever security and subsidy the French state can afford them, promising great riches. The families are also promised senior positions within the new bureaucracy should they see fit to take them.
It should be noted however that the Sun King is willing to incorporate and endorse the cooperation of these families regardless of their denomination. It is only that they will likely receive more say and guarantees of protection should they convert.
The French King only seeks their nominal conversion. Their personal religious practices and observances will not be monitored, and they are therefore free to pursue whatever private faith they seek upon nominally accepting the sacraments of the Catholic faith. This is discreetly communicated.
The king would regret having to place these families under house arrest and authorizing the seizure of their assets should it become apparent that they are planning to leave the country.
(OoC: I am happy to pay that and more)

The messengers are baffled as they deliver the message. The Huguenot families are gone, notes are left lying around their houses and offices emblazoned with the words 'We will not forsake God.'

That's a shame. Their assets are seized and warrants for a reward of 5,000 ducats are put on their arrests. Considerable leniency toward them will be showed if they report immediately to a French constabulary.
