It has been 3 years since James, the true and lawful heir, ascended to Kingship in England, Scotland and Ireland. In the words of a contemporary:
It was on this occasion that the world stood astonished to see the Metamorphosis in a manner of a whole Kingdom; this Prince, who so little while before had been persecuted, banished, and by the wishes of the people as well as the violent endeavours of Parliament on the point of being disinherited... to see (I say) this same Prince wellcom'd to the Throne with such universal acclamations of joy, such unexpressible testimonys of duty and affection from all ranks of people, was what history has no example for.
James has managed to demonstrate that Parliament should never have been worried. He has shown no sign of arbitrary power, nor has he presided over a Catholic counter-reformation. Instead, colonial expansion, the crushing of the French fleet and the alliance with William of Orange have all placated Parliament's concerns. However, this may all be about to change. James, and his Catholic wife Henrietta of Modena, have borne a son.
Up until now, the Protestant succession was guaranteed through James' daughters Mary and Anne, from his first marriage. Baby James threatens to change this, bound to become James III and VIII, the succession seems irrevocably tied to the Catholic Stuarts.
The Kingdoms celebrate heartily, though there are inevitably some Parliamentarians who curse the name of the King.
