After consistently baffling Christendom by continuing to live, Rey Carlos II has thrown another curveball as his wife, Maria Luisa, is pregnant!
Celebrations are held throughout Spain. By the laws of Spanish succession, if there are no viable male heirs, a woman can inherit. It seems therefore that, no matter the child's gender, the Spanish succession is secure.
Muchos felicidades...

The news of a Spanish heir is most heartening to Marcantonio Giustinian. As a sign of his respect for the Spanish throne, and his recognition of this new child as a righteous heir, the serene Doge wishes to send to the Spanish crown a gift of 20,000 ducats in the form of samples of the riches of the new Venice-China trade route as well as Venetian gold. The serene Doge wishes for long reigns for both Rey Carlos II, and for his child.
Da un amico gioiosa.

The King and Queen thank Doge Giustinian for his thoughts, prayers and gifts. They hope this approach will lead to a lon-term improvement in relations between Spain and Venice.

A baby girl is born, she seems to have avoided all the afflictions facing her father.
The Kingdom celebrates as Caterina Isabella Maria Luisa Theresa del Habsburg (commonly referred to as the Infanta Caterina Isabella) as she is revealed to the world. Many comment that she has her mother's eyes.

The Infanta Caterina Isabella is now two years old, and is continuing to show no signs of her father's ailments. She is talking and walking, nor does she suffer from prognathism that plagues Charles and other members of the Spanish and Austrian branches of the Hapsburgs. It is commented that she looks more French in appearance, prompting many to predict she will be a great beauty like her mother. Beauty or not, it is certain betrothals will come flying in from all across Europe as she gets older.
